Washington State Cactus

This page supports the effort to have the Basalt Cactus (Pediocactus nigrispinus) designated as the official

"state cactus" of the State of Washington.  Such action must be taken by the state legislature.

The bill run through the 2023-2024 Legislature was Senate Bill 5698, and the bill that worked its way

through the 2025-2026 Legislature was Senate Bill 5325.  Both bills failed to advance to session law.
